Five-time Carolina Clash Champion Ricky Weeks took the checkered flag for the second time this season at 311 Speedway on Saturday night. The Rutherfordton native joined a group of talented super late model drivers at the unsanctioned Spooktacular 50, a race preceding the World of Outlaws World Finals week in Charlotte.
Weeks started eighth and grabbed the lead just short of midway. He then led the rest of the way to get the win and take home the $5,000 prize. Mike Gault of Gaffney, S.C. followed in second and Concord’s Luke Roffers finished third.
“We’ve been pretty down all season, but I said to my guys that a couple of good races at the end of the year could jump-start things for next year. And so far, things have been going in that direction. The car was real good, and we didn’t give up”, said Weeks. “I found some great grip on an odd part of the track and no one wanted to run through the holes to get to it. Once the car bounced through the rough stuff, it was off like a rocket!”
